4/8/2023 0 Comments Ublock youtube adsAllow Ads on Specific YouTube Channels with AdBlockĪdBlock is the only ad blocker that allows you to allow ads on individual YouTube channels and continue to block ads everywhere else. But what if you want to support your favorite YouTubers, but you want an ad-free YouTube on other channels? You can do that easily with AdBlock. And in an age when YouTube creators often abuse viewers with too many (and unskippable) ads, blocking ads is a choice many viewers make with a clear conscience. You have to watch the ad all the way through. One question that’s often asked is “Do YouTubers make money if you skip the ad?” Nope. On the other hand, those that are may soon show even more ads. Following a series of changes in YouTube’s ad policy over the past year, fewer channels are showing ads these days. Let’s get it out of the way right up front: Do YouTube creators need your support? Things haven’t been going well for many of them lately. (The ubiquitous Chrome doesn’t support browser extensions such as AdBlock.) You don’t need a specific YouTube ad blocker for Firefox or Safari, once again the all-in-one AdBlock does it all for you. On iOS, use Safari on Android, use Firefox or Samsung Internet. To ensure you don’t see ads, watch YouTube videos in a mobile browser with AdBlock installed. YouTube with AdBlock How to Block YouTube Ads on Mobile Devicesīecause of the way mobile apps are designed, AdBlock can’t block ads in the YouTube app (or in any other app, for that matter). AdBlock blocks all ads on as soon as you install it - pre-roll, mid-roll, even the ads in the “Up next” sidebar. Just kidding! With AdBlock, you don’t have to do anything to start removing YouTube ads. Here’s how to block YouTube ads with AdBlock and make it enjoyable again. Thanks to AdBlock, however, you can take control of which ads you see and when. Many viewers still find the number, placement, and content of YouTube ads unacceptable. It eliminated the much-reviled unskippable 30-second ad format last February (after promising to do so for a year). From 30-second pre-roll ads to 5 unskippable 6-second ads in a 10-minute video, one study found that YouTube is second only to Facebook when it comes to offering up the most frustrating ads on the Internet.įortunately, YouTube seems to be hearing viewers’ complaints about the most egregious ads. It’s also the source of some of the most annoying ads. What seems best to do currently, is to add an entry to the FAQ about this, including links like this one that explain that it's not really a Vieb issue anymore, especially now that these scripts are also being correctly injected and blocked in the right places, and the ads are still showing up from time to time, just like with ublock.YouTube is one of the most popular destinations on the web. Some of them ended up buying youtube premium as a result, accepted that ads won't always be blocked or stopped using the platform as often. I asked a bunch of people I know what their experience is with ublock origin on youtube in firefox/chrome, and it's basically the same mess as the current Vieb situation, it either works or doesn't and it's overall fairly unreliable. I'm now undecided as what to do with this ticket, on the one hand it did lead to hardening of the adblocker, but on the other hand the issue is not completely solved, as that still seems pretty much impossible to do reliably. In the end, the only solution to youtube ads is buying youtube premium or not using youtube, either by switching to alternatives or using proxies like invidious, both of which will be better for privacy reasons anyway. When I added this to the code it most definitely blocked youtube ads reliably, but now they are back once again, at least until this file is updated. There is a bit of good news in that this will improve the adblocker, but it's still the case that most youtube updates will bring back ads until this resources file is updated. So thanks again for making a kick-ass browser. But then life happened, and I'm ending up having to move and look for another job.īut I still use Vieb on a daily basis, and I think it's really cool that you are willing to invest the time to support it, even if just on your own. I know I mentioned last time that I was going to look into it myself, and I really planned to. Hey, I just wanted to say thank you for taking the time to look into this. I was unaware that this even existed when first responding to this ticket, hence my reaction. I was only aware with the filters/filter lists, network filtering and cosmetic filtering, but apparently there is also usually a level to override the scripts that inject these ads if they are really nasty (for example youtube) so that they don't get injected in the first place. After looking into this once more with some fresh pair of eyes, I have learned that there is another level of blocking involved in most adblockers, including uBlock, which is script overriding.
